“At Cook & Becker we identified a growing disconnect between the traditional art world and a new generation of artists, art buyers and collectors. It is undeniable that some of the best and most influential artists are working within the entertainment and design industries. Also this new group of autonomous and post-autonomous artistic talent often works completely digital” said Maarten Brands, co-founder of Cook& Becker. “We wanted to do something with this. These types of art have not yet been represented well enough. Something we aim to rectify with truly some of the best international artists working in these spaces.” Cook & Becker has the support of people from the fine arts community as well as artists such Daniel Dociu and bafta winner & Zenimax Visual Design Director, Viktor Antonov. Viktor Antonov added, “The pre-production in games is the creative process in which designers, architects and illustrators push the boundaries of fiction as far as possible.
For me the best pieces of this process, the ‘concept illustrations’ are complete projects as valuable as the final product – film or game because they represent ideas in their purest form, without industrial or financial constraints.” Cook & Becker’s launch collection will feature limited edition and unique art from leading concept artists including:
• Jesse van Dijk – Concept artist at Bungie Studios, Credits include Killzone 3 and several movie projects, 2011 ‘Into The Pixel’ winner • Maciej Kuciara. Concept Artist at Naughty Dog Inc.. Credits include Crysis 1 & 2 and several movie projects • Julien Renoult - Art Director, Character & Concept Artist. Credits include Renaissance, The Colony and Team Fortress 2 • Roman van der Haven. Autonomous illustrator and character artist. Clients include Nintendo and several game development studios and ad-agency’s. • Guerrilla Games – Developers of Award winning Killzone franchise • Matsuura Masaya – Widely regarded as the ‘Father of the rhythm action’ genre, credits include: Parappa the Rapper, Vib Ribbon, Um Jammer Lammy
